FOOTBALL star David Beckham and Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson have given their backing to a United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) campaign for universal primary education.

They joined other celebrities in recording television appeals urging members of the public to sign a global petition that sets out ten principles for the improvement of children’s lives (www.gmfc.com).

On September 19, world leaders will gather in New York for a three-day United Nations’ special session on Children to examine what progress has been made for children over the past ten years.
