13th November 2009, 12:00am

An academy thought to be the first school in the country to use “museum learning” with more than 500 artefacts on site has been opened by the Olympic gold medal-winning rower Sir Matthew Pinsent.

Langley Academy in Slough, Berkshire, claims to have one of the most environmentally friendly buildings of any school in England.

The #163;23 million school runs its own museum and brings a range of historic objects to lessons to provoke questions and debate. It also claims to have unparalleled access to cultural institutions. DM.
