Books racket ended

A company that misled others into giving sponsorship for books about children’s issues, such as bullying, drug awareness and safety using the internet, has been wound up in the High Court following an investigation by Companies Investigation Branch.

Taylor Tanner Publications, based in Liverpool, used a range of techniques to elicit money from businesses, including representing itself as a charity and issuing invoices to businesses that had refused to provide sponsorship.

Taylor Tanner had an annual turnover of pound;580,000, but only a small proportion of this money was spent on the publication and distribution of books, the contents of which investigations showed were freely available on the internet.
