Border lines

Students are not what they were, it is commonly said. Just as well, Borders College might add. One wrote to the Southern Reporter of recent staff troubles there: “Students at the college realise absolutely that the management would not be so amateur as to blatantly ignore set redundancy procedures, or break the law on employment . . .no one is accusing the management of anything so crass.”

There was a time when students, possibly even those in FE, would have accused their managements of attempting to undermine western civilisation. But what students appear to prefer now is to attack each other.

“Angry College Student” went on to accuse Laura Curran, student rep on the board of management, of having too many meetings with the college’s corporate and business manager and keeping fellow students in the dark.

Students in smoke-filled rooms. Whatever next?
