Funds for leaders

A scheme to help teachers in urban schools develop leadership skills has received Pounds 870,000 in government funding. Teaching Leaders, developed by the National College for School Leadership, Teach First and other bodies, is a two-year programme for heads of department or year groups in London schools. The course offers conferences, masterclasses, a chance to visit another country, and to gain masters degree credits.

Olympics progress

Primary pupils in London had an opportunity to see how building work is progressing on the 2012 Olympic Games site in east London. Twenty Year 6 pupils and teachers from eight schools in each of the five host boroughs witnessed work starting on the velodrome site on Wednesday. The pupils had already met Gordon Brown at an earlier event as part of the Construction Crew initiative - designed to develop interest in careers in building - which is being run by the Olympic Delivery Authority.
