Browned off

Craig Brown, former heidie but still Scotland’s football coach, may be something of a national hero but not necessarily on his home patch in East Ayrshire.

At the launch of the authority’s sports co-ordinator scheme, he told of a visit to a local primary when his audience was asked if they knew who was coming.

“Aye, miss,” piped up one of the young footballing cogniscenti, “the Scotand janitor.”

Sweeper or not, Brown was most impressed with the co-ordinators’ natty jackets. Perhaps it was the colours that appealed to the former Rangers and Dundee player - orange and blue.

We assume that John Mulgrew, East Ayrshire’s education boss and himself a former denominational heidie (as they say) was excluded from the discussion when the colours were chosen.
