A leading primary school head has called for tougher Government measures to stem under-achievement of Afro-Caribbean children. Gilroy Brown, head of the Foundry primary in Birmingham, urged greater investment in long-term projects to halt truancy and exclusions.
Mr Gilroy, a member of the Government’s task force on under-achievement, told a conference on social exclusion this week that the black community still felt “marginalised, disenfranchised and disaffected” by the education system.
