Calling time on 30-minute inspections

10th February 2012, 12:00am

It is not yet Valentine’s Day, but I have fallen in love. Twice. Professor Dylan Wiliam, thank you for reminding the world of education that snapshot judgements of a teacher’s performance can be both misleading and cruelly damning.

Thank you also to Paul Jackson (“A burning passion for learning”, 3 February) for reminding us that teachers who are passionate about their craft and who dare to think outside the box (which might not be seen in a 30-minute snapshot) inspire a love and thirst for learning that will often transcend childhood.
