Campaigners aim to save Gaelic

GAELIC will die within a generation unless the language is given a higher priority in Scotland’s schools, it was claimed today by members of the Gaelic community as part of their evidence to the Scottish parliament’s education, culture and sport committee.

Theypressed for an amendment to the draft Standards in Scotland’s Schools Bill, which would see Gaelic put on a par with English in classrooms, saying that of the pound;3 billion education budget for Scotland, only around pound;3 million was devoted to Gaelic teaching.
