Campus dreams at 8

A London scheme is encouraging children as young as eight from deprived areas to aspire to university. The IntoUniversity programme combines extra academic support with mentoring schemes and visits to universities.

A study carried out by the National Foundation for Educational Research found that the programme increased motivation, self-esteem and confidence among the 1,500 children taking part. Researchers hope it will be extended to other areas of the country.
