Cap row drags on

31st August 2001, 1:00am
A BOY of 13 missed out on seven months’ schooling after being excluded from school for scuffling with teachers who confiscated his cap. Local government ombudsman Edward Osmotherley found the failure of a second school to respond promptly to calls from the boy’s mother probably led him to miss out on a place there, while Southwark council failed to offer tuition at a pupil referral unit and delayed in directing a third school to take the boy. The ombudsman has recommended that the council should pay the teenager’s mother pound;1,500 in compensation.
