Capital ideas

The capital building grants being made available next financial year for the 1,000 grant-maintained schools total Pounds 130 million while the 23,000 LEA schools will have between them Pounds 522 million.

By reducing the former to the pro rata level of the latter, Pounds 108 million would become available to help fund the teachers’ pay award.

The Government, however, is determined to try to bribe other schools to opt out. Tony Blair, whose son is going to a GM school and who will benefit from the iniquitous funding system, is not likely to draw attention to the injustice by suggesting a re-allocation of funds.
