Cash to help children in care;In brief

INNOVATIVE projects to raise achievement among disaffected teenagers and children in care are eligible for thousands of pounds in development cash from the Basic Skills Agency.

The agency wants bids from schools, colleges, local authorities and other groups for grants of up to pound;20,000 for imaginative demonstration projects in five fields: children in care (pound;10,000 for each); “catch-up programmes” for disaffected 14 to 16-year-olds (pound;10,000); involving parents in improving the basic skills of older children (pound;7,500); new approaches to basic skills for adults (pound;20,000); new approaches to English as a second language for adults (pound;20,000).
