Southwark primary schools are twinned with schools in Cape Town and our sponsor, the Old Mutual Bank, treated us all to wonderful workshops held by visiting musicians from the Cape Town Drum Cafe to celebrate the 10th anniversary of democracy in South Africa. The musicians brought in 100 djembe drums so all pupils in Year 3 and some from Year 4 could take up their invitation to “make as much noise as possible”. Some of the children already have djembe lessons and it was an excellent extension activity for the music curriculum.
