Chemistry - Explosive bat poo

26th September 2008, 1:00am

Training days for “innovative” chemistry teachers will take place next month in Edinburgh. They will learn how to carry out exciting experiments which involve, for example, “bat poo fireworks” and invisible ink.

The training targets those keen to explore “innovative methods” and will show how the principles of A Curriculum for Excellence can lead to more effective lessons. Contemporary themes are used to demonstrate how to make science appealing, such as CSI - a nod to the television drama of the same name - in which pupils solve crimes and mysteries.

The one-day courses, Kitchen Chemistry, were designed by Edinburgh-based teacher Peter Johnson. They take place at Stewart’s Melville College on October 14 and 20.
