China’s education plan

The Chinese Government has approved a reform plan for the next decade which promises to give priority to education in the country’s overall development programmes. The plan, approved at a meeting last week of the State Council (China’s Cabinet), envisages government investment in education increasing steadily from 3.8 per cent of gross domestic product in 2008 to 4 per cent by 2012.
