Entry standards vary from university to university as the table below, which shows the average A-level point score across all departments, demonstrates. The ranking gives a general picture of a university’s prestige - and the standards it demands. Prestige matters, particularly when it comes to entering the jobs market. Oxbridge and the traditional, long-established universities tend to hold a cachet which newer universities would die for. But it’s important to remember that it’s the entry requirements of the individual degree course which really count.
