Pupils at a Dundee school went on a seven-mile trek so they could appreciate how far African children walked to school every day.

About 70 Baldragon Academy S5 and S6 pupils took part in the walk on October 1, starting at 7.30am in Newport, Fife, and crossing the Tay Road Bridge (pictured) on their way to school. African drumming greeted the walkers as they returned.

The event was part of the school’s Africa Week, building on links with Maveya Community Day School in Malawi. Other events included the establishment of a radio connection with Radio Capital Malawi and daily meals featuring African specialities.
