Click and write

Crick Software should be a familiar name in just about every primary school in the country. The makers of Clicker, a supportive writing and multimedia tool and the winner of five BETT awards, say it is “probably the number one selling educational software package in the UK”.

With a click of the mouse, children select and use words, phrases and pictures in their writing. A typical comment from a teacher is:

“Clicker has children writing who have never written anything before”, says Crick Software’s sales and marketing manager, Lina Howarth.

It was recently licensed by the Scottish Executive to all early years, primary and special schools.

New from Crick Software this year is Jigworks, a package that builds on the principle of interlocking jigsaw pieces to generate a variety of curriculum activities for early learners.

“Many activities are provided - sorting, matching, letter recognition, word building - and teachers can create their own with easy-to-use editing tools,” says Ms Howarth.

At SETT, Crick Software was also demonstrating resources powered by Clicker. These include Planet Wobble for early literacy skills, a range of fiction (Gamba the gnu is the latest character) and the Find Out and Write About series of multimedia CD-Roms.
