Concern over teacher burnout

12th August 2011, 1:00am

Shadow education secretary Andy Burnham has called for the raising of the retirement age for teachers to be postponed due to the “extremely demanding” nature of the profession. The state pension age is set to go up from 65 to 66 by 2020 and eventually up to 68, and Lord Hutton has called for public sector pensions to match it. Mr Burnham has asked for the plans for teachers to be reviewed.
