Ruth Merttens, co-director of the Hamilton Maths and Reading Project, and Professors Ros Sutherland, David Singmaster and Ted Wragg are among those speaking at the Mathematical Association’s annual conference at Exeter University, April 15-18. Sessions will include: mathematical problems with affordable information and communications technology; the invertible cube; MA resources to enhance A-level delivery; developing young children’s mathematical thinking; inducting students into A-level maths; maths in sport; the Government’s strategy for ICT in education: what’s in it for maths? and raising achievement of mathematically able children in inner city schools. Mathematical Dreams and Visions is the theme of the Association of Teachers of Mathematics’ annual conference at Westminster College, Oxford, April 17-20. Seminars will include: dynamic visions in geometry; visions and visualisation: seeing your data move with Fathom; a mathematical Crystal Maze; maths and make-believe play; modular A-levels for all; developing students’ space imagination; and using TV to develop children’s understanding of number. Among the contributors will be representatives from the National Numeracy Strategy and Teacher Training Agency.
