Developing Financial Capability through Mathematics and PHSE is an excellent KS3 CD-Rom from the Personal Finance Education Group. The context is a holiday trip abroad. Pupils are presented with facts, figures and questions to think about. They need to weigh up what they want from their vacation, interpreting climate graphs and extracts from brochures.
They also have to interpret flight schedules and charts of travel distances, and then comes working out currency conversions, insurance and interest rates on loans. It’s enjoyable, challenging and entirely believable.
