The curriculum of the free

6th July 2012, 1:00am

As an independent schools group, we agree that freedom for teachers is a key ingredient of good teaching practice (“The new curriculum will allow ‘extreme’ freedom in secondary”, 29 June), providing great teachers with time to innovate and inspire learners. Currently, independent schools are at liberty to design their own curricula and they do so with great success (as Michael Gove acknowledges). We welcome the Tim Oates National Curriculum Review report, and hope that the Department for Education will follow much of his advice.
