Currying favour

Still on the subject of elections, the last meeting of East Renfrewshire education committee before the local tribunes expose themselves to the whims of the electorate in May was inevitably peppered with allusions to the hustings.

Unaccustomed bedfellows emerged. Tory councillor Frank McGhee seemed keen to second a proposal from teachers’ representative and Educational Institute of Scotland activist Allan Munro to note rather than approve a working party report on pastoral duties in secondary schools.

Nothing to do with the election, of course, as Labour leader Owen Taylor did not observe.
