With back-to-back inspections, lead inspectors can find it difficult to find time to convey the individuality of each school as they should. Hence the danger of “cut and paste” inspection reports (“Ofsted under fire for ‘cut and paste’ reports that fail schools”, 8 June). In pre-Ofsted days inspectors were not allowed to lead back-to-back inspections partly for that reason. Shouldn’t Ofsted and its subcontracted organisations reinstate that practice? Both schools and lead inspectors would benefit.
