Some of the country’s most disadvantaged students face cuts colleges say have been forced by lack of funding. They include:
* Grimsby Institute: Cuts to courses for students with disabilities, which may include those with Downs syndrome, visual impairment and autism.
* Hampstead Garden Suburb Institute, London: To axe 50 per cent of provision for student with “severe learning difficulties”.
* Peterborough Regional College: Two adult learning centres to close.
* Hackney Community College: Sign language courses to be cut
* Other cuts include music at Eastleigh College in Hampshire, 10 per cent of adult places at Cornwall College and 1,000 adult places at South Cheshire College.
Typically, colleges are reporting shortfalls of between pound;120,000 and pound;900,000. (Source: Association of Colleges)
