Dabbling with Dahl

23rd September 2005, 1:00am
A new museum devoted to the life of the author of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” opened its doors in June. The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre lies in the village once lived in by the great storyteller.

Through rare manuscripts, letters, photographs and Dahl’s own “ideas book”, the museum tells his story and that of his many wonderful characters. The Boy and Solo galleries chronicle Dahl’s life and work through objects and interactive displays. In the centre you’ll find a replica of his famous “writing hut” which stands in the middle of a magical “orchard” where interactive games and bookcases can be discovered. There are lots of activities on offer such as movie animation and recording your dreams in a “dream bottle”. The museum, in Great Missenden, Bucks, is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am-5pm.
