(Photograph) - Dragons fired imaginations at St George’s primary in Edgbaston, West Midlands - this year’s winner of the Chrisi Bailey Award (see above). The annual prize for under-10s, supported by Arts Council England, is made in memory of the educator Chrisi Bailey’s pioneering work with photography in primary schools. It recognises creative projects which use photography, digital art, animation and video.

In Urban Dragons, Year 3 pupils worked with two artists to explore how dragons might live in their city.

Second place went to Lees primary in Keighley, where pupils chose a theme based on traditional poems. In joint third place were two photography projects: pupils at Blandford St Mary first school in Dorset captured their school in unusual perspectives while a collaborative project between two London schools, Monson primary and Naima primary, explored the idea of personal identity.

St George’s will receive pound;1,000, a camera and computer software. The prize money will be used towards a new arts suite and an open-air auditorium called The Dragon Theatre.
