London’s a great place to live. And it will be a brilliant place to cut your teeth as a teacher, according to the Commissioner for London Schools, Tim Brighouse. Contrary to press reports, getting housing in the capital is not impossible, as we report (pages 6 and 7).

If you’re starting your first post in London this September, email us and you could win one of 10 TES First Appointments Make-the-most-of-London kits. Each contains a trip for two to the theatre, a ride for two on the London Eye, an A-Z to help you get to know the city, Peter Ackroyd’s brilliant ‘Biography of London’, the latest copies of the excellent ‘Time Out’ guides: Eating, Shopping, Cheap Eats and Pubs and Bars. And, a must for every serious London dweller, a special subscription offer for ‘Time Out’.

What a welcome.
