Education ‘market’ key to success

INCREASED competition between schools is the chief reason for the year-by-year improvements in exam results, according to a think-tank report being published tomorrow. The Adam Smith Institute’s study of 3,000 state schools concluded that league tables and greater parental choice had created a “quasi-market” in education, which had succeeded in making secondaries more efficient. ‘The Report Card on Competition in Schools’ is available at www.adamsmith.org.
