Imagine a new animal, that lives in a very cold or a very hot world, and give it a name. Write down words to describe it. Draw your animal, and the things it would eat.

You are a Martian astronaut, living five, or 100, or 200 million years from now; you’ve been sent on a mission to Earth, where something terrifying happens. Write a letter to your mum, telling her about it.

KS3

You are the oldest, wisest silver spider on Earth, 100 million years from now; explain to your great grandchildren how you see the world and your place in it.

If nothing is impossible in evolution, perhaps the scientists are mistaken, and humans will evolve to survive the frozen conditions (500 million years from now), or the hothouse predicted 100 million years away. What might they look like? What would their lives be like?

The article describes life on Earth continuing, long after humans become extinct. Some people say we should do all we can to prevent humans destroying the present environment; others feel life on Earth will go on, whatever damage we may do. Explain which view you take, and why.
