First News, a newspaper for eight to 14-year-olds launched in 2006, celebrates its 300th issue this month, having recently been named best national newspaper by the Plain English Campaign.
What is it?
It offers young people a weekly breakdown of the latest news stories in an entertaining and accessible format.
Why does it work?
“It informs, educates, entertains, explains and analyses young people’s concerns, in a way that no other newspaper does,” says co-founder Piers Morgan.
“First News shows children the realities of the world,” editor Nicky Cox explains. “I believe that for the world to be a better place, the next generation needs to be better informed than the last. I am delighted that First News is leading the way.”
