* Why will students get compensation in exams if a pet dies or they have a headache, but disabled students are unable to get the adjustments they need?
Skill regularly hears from students who have been disadvantaged in exams, for example blind students who have not been allowed a reader or students with writing difficulties such as dyspraxia refused a computer.
Even though exams are now to be covered by legislation, (Disability Discrimination Act 2005) the Joint Council for Qualifications seems intent on misunderstanding disability discrimination. Clear guidance is needed now on fair treatment for disabled students in exams.
