Exam curb advised

Schools could be restricted to just one exam board for all their subjects to prevent them shopping around for the easiest options, according to a leaked discussion document from the Government’s curriculum advisers.

Education and Employment Secretary Gillian Shephard has called for a reduction in exam boards and syllabuses so that standards can be compared over time more accurately. A joint committee of the School Curriculum Authority and the National Council for Vocational Qualifications could cut the number of boards to three, and oblige each school to choose just one.

Shephard ‘callous’.
