The extended schools initiative has been singled out as a way to help combat child poverty. A Department for Children, School and Families survey found that teachers, social workers and health visitors viewed the programme as "one of the most positive moves made by the Government in recent times in facilitating a joined-up and holistic approach". Some also said that extended schools helped parents back into work.
