Extra help plan to bridge gap

15th September 2006, 1:00am
Gifted black and ethnic minority pupils are to receive extra help to raise their grades and close the gap between them and their white contemporaries, the Government announched this week.

A network of primary and secondary schools in London, headteachers and councils will be set up to identify bright pupils and support them and their schools with extra materials and advice.

This will be coupled with the expansion of an initiative to encourage more black teachers to develop their careers and become headteachers.
