An F for English standards

In the debacle concerning the re-grading of GCSE English, I have sympathy for pupils, who are innocent pawns in this issue. However, I have increasingly less sympathy for teachers. They have larger issues to address. It appears that some teachers are learning their English from their pupils. Or from each other.

A secondary teacher recently published online an A-level tutorial text for a Stem subject, in which the expression “will of” appears four times and “should of” at least once. This genetic modification of the language is fast becoming an epidemic.
