Fast Track scheme is such a waste

I was shocked to read that the Fast Track scheme for school leadership has been a success with only 176 people, although it cost at least Pounds 89 million (“New fast-track head scheme looks to career-changers”, TES, November 28). That is about Pounds 500,000 per person. Is this good value? Is it wise to put young teachers through this process? I waited at least five years before applying to become a head of department.

Surely something is amiss when it costs so much money to “fast track” so few.
