SUGGESTIONS of a five-term school year - four for education, one for fun - have been criticised by a teacher union. The idea was mooted by Christopher Price, former MP, head of a commission on the isssue, funded by the Local Goernment Association.

Nigel de Gruchy, general secretary of the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers, said: “An additional fifth fun term enters previously uncharted waters of unreality.”
