FEmale trio

Congratulations to Fiona Baikie, vice-principal at Edinburgh’s Telford College, who has just been appointed principal to succeed Michael Taylor. The leet included three existing (male) principals.

Baikie joins the select but growing band of women principals in a year that has seen their number grow from zero to three. Janet Price, vice-principal at York College, started the ball rolling in Inverness and was followed by Janet Lowe, who stepped up from the number two job at Lauder College.

Alison Reid, meanwhile, took over last April as chief executive of the Scottish Further Education Unit.

And not a women-only short leet in sight.
