The Scottish Football Association (SFA) has been targeting children as young as three to increase participation levels. The SFA’s community scheme has just published its annual report, which shows that three-year-olds have taken part in Mini-Kickers courses. There are now almost 3,000 Soccer Sevens and sall-sided teams in the country, participating in 124 leagues.

“We are actively pursuing further opportunities to expand, says Jim Fleeting, the community scheme director. A children’s programme director is being recruited and a football development officer post in the Borders advertised.
