Frank McAveety, Glasgow MSP and occasional minister, likes to tell people he went to St Aloysius in the city, it emerges.

“A fantastic achievement” is the response of Glasgow’s aspirational middle classes, McAveety told MSPs last week during the debate on the Charities Bill.

They change their tune, however, when the jester reveals his alma mater is not the famed fee-paying college but St Aloysius primary in Springburn.
