A scheme to boost the reading of more than 2,500 children during the summer holidays was launched this week.
National literacy charity Reading is Fundamental has joined forces with the charitable arm of high-street giant WHSmith to kick off the second year of the Summer Read campaign.
Children from play schemes in 15 locations will be able to choose and keep two free books and take part in activities including storytelling, treasure hunts and sports activities.
