A frightening faith in figures

So ministers believe that naming schools (and naming individual heads by expressing their relief when they have "resigned") will benefit the drive towards higher standards. They appear to forget that the example given to young people and adults is that name-calling and bullying are acceptable.

We work hard to help people respect each other and their views, and teach strategies for coping with frustration and misconceptions.

The apparent total trust in the value of the simple facts and figures is frightening. If our new leaders take such simplistic positions, how can we hope as educators to raise the levels of education through a deeper understanding of society?
