The education budget in SNP-controlled Angus must be tighter than the worst predictions. A new helpline called Angus School Closures has been set up to keep parents abreast of developments at their children’s school.

But school boards can tuck away their opt-out ballots. As the Courier put it this week: “January is traditionally the month when wintry weather can often result in widespread school closures.”

Perhaps Glasgow City Council might fancy a spot of long-term bad weather?
