Frustrations of the top job should not deter aspiring leaders

It is sad that a few heads are sacked every year as a result of poor Ofsted inspections. But I am sure most heads would highlight the positive aspects of the job. And the most wonderful thing is that it gives you a chance to work creatively with others to improve young people’s life chances.

The school where I am head has gone on the journey from special measures to successful outcomes. This was a hard slog but worth it when you see the benefits for students. I hope successful deputies won’t shy away from headship. If they do, they will miss out on a wonderful opportunity.
