If you use the Internet you may know that your browser stores information about which web pages you have looked at recently. Browser is the name of the software that you use to surf the web (just as a word-processor lets you type a letter and a spreadsheet helps you keep track of your personal finances).
The history function of the browser means a copy of the pages you have visited recently is stored as a temporary file on your computer. It makes looking at pages again very quick and easy.
The browser uses a pre-set section of your hard drive to hold thee copies and, as you view more and more web pages, it continuously re-uses this space. You can set how much of your hard drive is allocated to storing temporary Internet files and how long it holds copies for.
This is especially relevant for students using computers once or twice a week.
If the history function is set to hold files for two days, it will be blank when a student logs back on. To re-set it to seven days, open your browser, click Tools, then Internet Options and then reset the information in the History section.
