There was some confusion, it seems, over the appointment of Matthew MacIver, rector of the Royal High in Edinburgh, as depute registrar of the General Teaching Council. For MacIver is also chairman of another august body - Comataidh Telebhisein Gaidhlig.

This is the organisation responsible for disbursing the Government’s Pounds 9 million to Gaelic television and radio - a backward GTC, acronymically speaking.

Alas, the confusion was misplaced, since the CTG has now been renamed the Gaelic Broadcasting Committee, or Comataidh Craoladh Gaidhlig. It doesn’t have the same ring somehow.
