27th March 2009, 12:00am

A trial event in May will allow P6 Gaelic medium pupils from all over Scotland to meet each other.

Spors Mor - or Big Gaelic Fun Day - takes place in Stirling on May 11-12, with 80 pupils expected to attend. It will include music, drama, tae kwon do, environmental activities and sport. The event has been designed to tie in with A Curriculum for Excellence.

Highland Council’s Gaelic development officer, Morag Anna MacLeod, said: “The aim of Spors Mor is to ensure that the young people meet others who are also being educated through Gaelic and have the opportunity to participate and use their language skills in a different environment. At the same time they are learning new leisure and sporting skills and having fun.”

The event is being organised by Highland Council and Gaelic development organisation Comunn na Gaidhlig, with funding support from other Gaelic bodies.
