Gall over Gaelic

18th February 2011, 12:00am

The comments on Gaelic-medium education by Edinburgh children and families convener Marilyne MacLaren were biased and inflammatory (TESS, 4 February). She implied that providing a Gaelic school for the children of Edinburgh parents will cost significantly more - teachers cost the same whether they are delivering in English or Gaelic.

The Scottish Government is offering to provide funding for the refurbishment of the former site of Bonnington Primary as a dedicated Gaelic school. Mrs MacLaren has been against Gaelic education from the outset and she should be much more guarded in her comments and refrain from trying to incite disharmony and confrontation between parents of Gaelic-medium education and mainstream.
